Grass Literacy Video Series
Have you ever tried to identify something in your paddock and got stuck trying to work out what a ligule, a floret or a spikelet is? The terminology of botany can be confusing but we have developed a series of videos to increase your grass literacy by going back to basics. These videos aim to make you better equipped to identify the many different Australian types of grasses by focusing on understanding ten to a dozen key features of a grass plant.
Some useful TOOLS:
- A hand lens or magnifying glass
- Blu Tack
- Tweezers
- Wine corks and pins
We recommend the following FIELD GUIDES:
- Grasses of the NSW tablelands by Harry Rose, Jenene Kidson, Carol Rose and Clare Edwards, New South Wales Government, Department of Primary Industries, 2013.
- Name those grasses: identifying grasses, sedges and rushes by Ian Clarke, Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, 2015.
- Grasses of South Australia: an illustrated guide to the native and naturalised species by John Jessop, Gilbert R. M. Dashorst, Fiona M. James, Wakefield Press, 2018.
