The Mudgee Bee Group and Watershed Landcare will be hosting a Backyard Beekeeping Course with Bruce White OAM.

Bruce White OAM, has spent his career in the apiary industry in NSW DPI and has extensive knowledge of rural beekeeping and frequently delivers courses for LLS and the Amateur Beekeepers Association. The course will cover topics such as protective clothing, hive design, hive management, biosecurity, honey extraction and a whole lot more in a hand-on practical weekend.

Cost: $275 per person (includes course notes, lunch & morning tea on both days)
WLI & MBG Financial Members discount rate: $180
**numbers are limited to 15 and you must pay in full to secure your spot.

BYO beekeeping equipment – gloves, bee suit / veil, long pants and shirt.

Workshop Outline – Day 1

  1. Introduction and overview of the beekeeping industry
  2. Designs of protective clothing
  3. Design of bee hives and various options
  4. Assembling of Equipment
  5. Painting
  6. Handling Bees practical section
  7. Select sites – Back yard & Rural sites
  8. Year round management of hives
  9. Options for getting your first hive
  10. How to move hives

  11. Valuing Hives
  12. Catching a Swarm
